Music Monday: Walking Away

hand opens the door to the meadow with green grass and glue skybelieve in fighting for the things that are important to you.  I believe in keeping your commitments.   I believe the grass is not always greener on the other side. I believe there is beauty in staying the course even when things get hard.

I also believe that occasionally the grass is actually greener somewhere else.  I believe that sometimes it’s just time to move on… to let go of what is to create space for what can be.  I believe there can be beauty in walking away.

I’ve recently been asked by two people close to me a version of this question: “How will I know when it’s time… when it’s better to leave than to stay?”  I couldn’t answer that for either of them, of course.  Only they can answer that question for themselves but I do know this…  When staying where you are is sucking the very life out of you, your spirit, and your dream… it’s time.  Whether it’s a job, a city, a marriage, a friendship, a client relationship, or a memory, it often takes far more courage to go than to stay but it’s often the best and only real choice.  And it turns out, it’s almost always good for both parties in the long run.

This music Monday, I’ve chosen Marie Digby’s song, “Beauty in Walking Away.”  In it she speaks to the idea that there is often a life waiting just beyond the fear, a freedom just beyond the confusion.  If you find yourself in a job that is stifling you or employing someone who consistently drags you down, remember there can be beauty in walking away.  If you find you are sucking in negative energy from a combative or volatile situation or you simply need to finally find your own voice, remember there can be beauty in walking away.

This week, support someone who needs the courage and encouragement to make a move and open up some new possibilities… especially if that someone is you!

Marie Digby – The Beauty in Walking Away

“A light shines off
In the distance
A pale flickering glow
How many times
Do I have to dream
That I could be there
The time is here
And she won’t be
Waiting for me
To find the easy way out
I’ve lost count of the days
That were wasted

There’s an answer
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There’s a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There’s a beauty
In walking away

I float on the streets
That are empty
Take the path
That the wind only knows
Tonight is the last time
That I’ll ever be here

There’s an answer
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There’s a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There’s a beauty
In walking away

It’s never quite simple
It’s never that safe
It never seems perfect
Until it’s too late
It’s never the right time
To find a new way

There’s an answer
In the sound of a train
There is wisdom
Past the bridge on the bay
There’s a lifetime
Through the fog
In the rain
There’s a beauty
In walking away “
